Q4 2023 Performance of Top Navigation Apps on Android in Australia

As the final quarter of 2023 came to a close, the navigation and maps category on Android saw mixed performance among its top applications in Australia. Sensor Tower's data offers a closer look at how these apps fared in terms of downloads and weekly active users.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced fluctuating download numbers, peaking at 13K in the week of December 18th, with a general upward trend from 9K in the last week of September. Its weekly active users showed stability, maintaining around 75K throughout the quarter, with a notable increase to 76K in mid-December.

Google Earth saw a more consistent pattern in downloads, starting at nearly 4K in late September and rising to over 4K by the year's end. Weekly active users ranged from 14K to 16K, ending the quarter with a slight uptick.

For GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation, which did generate revenue, there was a decline in downloads from nearly 3K to around 2K. However, revenue remained fairly stable, averaging around $370 weekly. Weekly active users started at 25K and saw a dip to 22K by early December, before rebounding to over 24K in the final week.

Google Maps Go maintained modest download figures hovering slightly above 1K throughout the quarter. Its active users showed a small fluctuation but mostly stayed between 3.7K and 4K.

Lastly, GPS+ Maps, Navigation, Traffic had an interesting trajectory with downloads starting at 401 and experiencing a significant spike to over 3K in mid-December, before dropping to 1.6K. Revenue peaked at $217 in the last week of December, while active users saw a rise from 6.3K to 9.8K in mid-December, then fell to 7.7K.
